Love Story
Dearly beloved subscribers, I’m into the third week of my Wedding Illustration Masterclass and I’m in love…
…with the whole idea of illustrating couples, their in-laws, outlaws, shake-it-all-aboutlaws and anyone else who might turn up.
Here are some Illustrations of work that I’ve created so far, some illustrations of different groups of wedding guests drawn in strictly 10 minutes! Obviously at a real shindig I might add on a minute or so to capture all the flourishes, but here you get the gist of what’s possible in a limited time.
So, if I were to draw you for example, you wouldn’t have to stand there in front of me like an unblinking statue hardly daring to breathe. I would already have a pose in mind. Here are some go-to silhouettes that I created:
And here, I drew people from photographs. Originally they were standing in a different pose, but I altered them to be more glamourous and fashion-y. I probably wouldn’t need to do much to you, dear Subscribers, as you are already so fabulous.
Here are some more illustrations drawn in the same way, but with an extra minute or two added to incorporate some definition and highlights:
Obviously the plan is to be faster with more practice and get all those flourishes and details in in under 10 minutes, watch this space!
What equipment am I using?
Well, I start with pencil and then draw a very fine ink outline. Then I rub out the pencil. These drawings are coloured with Winsor and Newton Promarkers and then additional details and highlights are added with fine liner and gold, silver and white gel pen.
For a more polished portrait, I prefer to use watercolour paints with coloured pencil for definition. This takes much longer, but is perfect for a portrait commission of a bride and groom.
I loved painting the image below, all the details on the fabrics and the henna designs are a joy to create.
Indian bride and groom wearing lavish robes, embroidered designs, gold jewellery standing in front of a backdrop of peony petals.
Do you have a wedding or event coming up? Have you considered booking a live illustrator alongside your traditional wedding photographer? Maybe you haven’t heard of, or thought of, incorporating a live event illustrator before?
I am taking bookings now, and in advance for future dates, so please do get in touch even if you just fancy a chat to see how it all works.
I’m attaching a link to more information and logistics on my Wedding Portfolio page. If you’re intrigued, I’d love to be involved in your plans- or please do refer me on to anyone you might know who has a celebration coming up.
Keep dabbling gleefully, and I’ll be back with another update soon,
Zoe
