Frequently asked questions.
What are the different types of Live Event Illustration?
If you are a shop or gallery owner the simplest type is when your customers pay Zoe Parker Illustration directly for their portraits (on my payment machine). I then pay commission to you. This brings more customers to you, at no cost, keeps customers with you for longer and provides fun and entertainment. I can take a photo of the customer and then draw them in ten minutes, whilst they shop. If they don’t want to keep their illustration then they don’t have to pay me, I can keep it for my portfolio.
Just send me a message via the contact link if you would like to chat more.
Another type is for larger-scale events when Zoe Parker Illustration is paid in advance by your establishment as entertainment for your staff and clients, more details below:
How Does Live Event Illustration Work?
What happens before the event?
We’ll have a chat via Zoom or phone to discuss details, such as venue logistics, and how many people are expected (I can create 18-20 drawings in a 3-hour setting); and whether or not people would prefer to be drawn from photographs or from life, standing in front of me- or both!
We’ll talk about available budgets, so that we can agree the cost and deposit.
I like to dress up and accessorise, so we can discuss the dress code too!
I’ll bring everything I need with me- all I request is a table and chair, preferably close to a plug socket in case I need extra light. I’ll research the venue’s location and logistics and my journey there, so you don’t need to worry about that. I’ll even bring my own snacks!
What happens during the event?
I’ll aim to arrive at least 30 minutes before the event and set up my working area.
I’ll take photos of the venue and sketch from these to set the vibe as people arrive. I will have a sign with clear instructions as to how Live Event Illustration works so that your guests aren’t wondering who’s the Art Weirdo in the corner. Usually people are keen to be drawn straight away and a queue can start to form, so I’ll work from photographs and have clear timings and a rota.
Next I’ll start working on the illustrations from the photographs. As I finish them, I will put them on a display rack in cello bags. Guests will be free to observe the illustrations and take them whenever convenient. I am always happy for guests to watch me at work!
If there is not time to draw everyone who would like to be illustrated, then I am happy to create illustrations in my studio after the event and post these on.
What happens after the event?
A week or so later I will give you a courtesy call to check that everyone loves their illustrations! Also to see if there are any extras that might be added.
Do keep in touch and keep me posted about any upcoming events and celebrations!
What’s the Cost?
As all events are different, I am happy to discuss budgets.
Costs generally include all my art materials and plain drawing papers; local travel (within London Contactless Area); client liaison (initial phone call or zoom call); admin time (my research); up to 20 ten-minute illustrations on A5 paper- each paper could have one or more guest illustrated, the price is the same the only change is that more people in an illustration leads to fewer details. Don’t worry though, I am very quick and can create a lot of work in 10 minutes!
If time over runs then the cost is £175 for the extra time on the day, up to one hour.
Any A5 illustrations created after the event, requested surplus to the agreed 20 illustrations, and created in my studio, will be charged at £42 each + postage.
Add-ons:
The cost of an overnight stay if necessary.
Travel costs if outside the London Contactless Area.
